Using salvaged wood in public garden design

A new sustainable garden features five chunky London plane wooden backrests.
Check out our chunky London plane backrests – available for all to lean back on in a new sustainable public garden in the City of London. 🌼🌳

We milled and hand-crafted each of the five backrests from fallen London planes - trees that would otherwise have been destroyed.

This is just our sort of thing - a city garden, radically redesigned as a pilot using circular economy principles, reusing materials - including our timber - and the granite seats, salvaged from the Thames River Wall.

The paving allows rain to drain freely - storing it for the trees to use later - and the garden plants have been selected with local wildlife in mind.

It’s all part of the City’s aims to create public spaces that are more resilient to climate change.

Take a look - the New Change Garden is on the corner of Cheapside and New Change, just by St Paul's Cathedral. It’s a tranquil spot in very busy part of the world...
