Yesterday we delivered this cleaned up sweet chestnut tree trunk and rootball to the Southbank Centre. It will be displayed in a contemporary artwork by Otobong Nkanga at the Hayward Gallery exhibition 'Dear Earth' opening 21 June.

The tree comes from Dartford in South East London and was felled by foresters as part of a managed thinning process (as a woodland grows, selected trees are removed to improve the health and growth of those remaining). Most trees like this are used to make fencing. We think this one's getting a much more exciting second life!
